The preaching and the hearing of God’s - an indispensable propeller

PRAYING MARANATHA: COME, O LORD. 1 Cor16:22, Rev22:7, 12.

Hymn-
The sower

1. Christ spoke in parables
To the crowds around Him
And said in His doctrine
A sower and his seed.

2. He spoke of the sower
In His precious parable
Who went out with precious seed
To sow on various grounds.

3. Oh my dear sower
How could you sow carelessly?
The seed that you were given,
Have potential to grow.

4. Lord I thank you for your seed
That you have given to me
To go and sow sparingly
With the hope to bring forth.

5. Seeds ought not fall off my hand
But I must bend down and cast
Them into the various grounds
That I had worked upon.

Ancient Words

Holy words long preserved
For our walk in this world
They resound with God's own heart
Oh, let the ancient words impart

Words of Life, words of Hope
Give us strength, help us cope
In this world, where e'er we roam
Ancient words will guide us home

Ancient words ever true
Changing me and changing you
We have come with open hearts
Oh, let the ancient words impart

Holy words of our Faith
Handed down to this age
Came to us through sacrifice
Oh heed the faithful words of Christ

Holy words long preserved
For our walk in this world
They resound with God's own heart
Oh let the ancient words impart

Ancient words ever true
Changing me and changing you
We have come with open hearts
Oh, let the ancient words impart

Maranatha, Come Lord Jesus has been our cry, yet as we cry come Lord Jesus, we must not ignore the ministry of the word of God.
Men and women of God who fulfilled prophecy took the word of God serious. Our Lord Jesus read Isa 61 in the temple and identified Himself with this scriptures (Luke 4:18-21), John himself quoted Isa 40:3 (John1:21). This shows that they both took the personal studying and memorizing of God’s word serious.

Jesus Himself spoke in Matt 24:14 - And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come. In Mark 4, Jesus told the parable of the sower who went out to sow God’s word.

Micah 4:1-2 But in the last days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established in the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and people shall flow unto it. 2And many nations shall come, and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, and to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for the law shall go forth of Zion, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

What is God’s word?
  • God Himself - John1:1.
  • They testified of Christ - 5:39
  • Profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 2Tim3:16
  • Furnishing 2 Tim3: 17.
  • Quick and powerful - Hebrews 4:12.
  • Settled in heaven - Ps119:89
  • Converts, makes wise, rejoices the heart and enlightened the eyes Ps 19:7-8
  • Causes fruitfulness Psalms 1:2-3
  • Sanctifies and cleanses Eph5:26, John 17:7
  • God hasten His word to perform it Jeremiah 1:12
  • Mirror: James1:22-25
  • Seed - Mk 4:1-4
  • Wheat Jer 23:28
God’s word is a choice everyone ought to make. Luke 10: 38-41
38 Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.39 And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word. 40 But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me. 41 And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:42 But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her. For Martha in the above scripture, she could only receive Jesus into her house, but not into her heart because her heart was occupied with something else (worry). The Lord Jesus came to Martha’s house, what a great honour! But could it be that she has become very familiar with the Lord that she sees no benefit in sitting at Jesus feet? She saw her hospitality as highly needed
that the sitting down personally at Jesus’ feet.

On the contrary, Mary who sat at Jesus’ feet became an indispensable vessel in the ministry of our Lord Jesus. What is your attitude to the word of God ? Have you heard Him today from His word?

What we must do as men and women that are crying Maranatha:
  • We must honour and commit ourselves to the reading, studying, and memorising of God’s word personally.
  • We must teach the word of God in our homes, churches and workplaces etc.
  • We must read word enriched literatures.
  • We must listen to word enriched sermons.
  • We must write word enriched literatures.
  • We must weigh personal, congregational, national and generational issues by God’s word.
  • We must pray that the teaching of God’s word be restored back to His church.

Prayer points:

1. Teach me to choose the personal studying of your word.
2. Help me to see the gravity of your word as a man/woman that is crying Maranatha.
3. Let your word be faithfully preached in your church afresh.
4. Teach your people to hope in your word.
5. Open door to your church to preach the word.
6. Lift up your head O ye gates to nations, let the word of God gain access into the nations.
